Chia seeds are full of protein, omega 3 fats, fibre, calcium, zinc and iron - which makes them one of the most nutritious plant foods around and a great addition to babies’ meals.

They absorb liquid and swell up to 12 times their size so they make a nice thick consistency like a pudding when added to milk, purées fruit or yoghurt.

Chia seeds are very small and therefore not a choking hazard for babies, but you can grind them if you prefer.

A word of warning though - as chia seeds are very high in fibre, it’s best to start slowly, to avoid any gastrointestinal discomfort, building up to around 1-2 tsp per serve for babies.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
